PCV welcomes UN rapporteur's report and reiterates demand for the immediate and unconditional lifting of imperialist criminal coercive measures against Venezuela
The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) welcomes the preliminary conclusions of the report presented by the Special Rapporteur of the United Nations (UN), Alena Douhan, after her visit to Venezuela, where she points out that the illegal sanctions have aggravated the calamities suffered by the Venezuelan people and represent a violation of human rights. The rapporteur has urged the governments of the United States and the European Union to lift these unilateral coercive measures that were illegally imposed with the purpose of bringing about a change of government through interference and external pressure.
The effects of these measures, as the document points out, have been devastating mainly on the most vulnerable sectors of society: people living in extreme poverty, women, children, workers, people with disabilities or chronic illnesses, and indigenous populations.
The criminal impact of the illegal coercive measures, together with the effects of the general crisis of the dependent and rentier capitalist model, and the inconsistencies of an economic policy, which in this adverse context, zealously protects the interests of the capitalists while dismantling the conquests, social and labor rights of the people, have caused the impoverishment and growing deterioration of the living conditions of the Venezuelan people.
We support the demand of the UN rapporteur, to the Governments of the United Kingdom, Portugal and the United States to immediately unfreeze the assets of the Central Bank of Venezuela deposited in financial institutions of those countries, so that they can be destined to meet the humanitarian needs of the Venezuelan people that have worsened in the context of the global pandemic of Covid-19
Since 2015, when the Obama administration declared Venezuela as an unusual and extraordinary threat to the internal security of the United States, the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) has developed an intense offensive against the escalation of imperialist aggression, the imposition of illegal extraterritorial sanctions and for the respect of the right to self-determination of the Venezuelan people. This has been a campaign that the PCV has promoted with great force in the International Communist Movement, the regional and world parliaments, the World Federation of Trade Unions, the International Federation of Women, the World Federation of Democratic Youth, the World Peace Council, the Sao Paulo Forum, among other political, social and institutional spaces.
After noting the dramatic consequences of the imperialist aggressions against the Venezuelan people, we demand that the United Nations (UN) adopt more forceful actions against these criminal and illegal measures imposed by the U.S. and the European Union against the Venezuelan people outside international law.
The criminal and illegal unilateral coercive measures must be lifted immediately without any conditioning of any kind on our country and people. All financial resources and assets owned by the Republic must be returned to the country.
We urge the Government of President Nicolás Maduro to carry out the corresponding international legal actions against the nations that executed the criminal unilateral measures and demand that they assume responsibility for the human and patrimonial damages caused to the country and the Venezuelan people. The crimes committed against the Venezuelan people cannot go unpunished, the Republic must deploy a strong international political, diplomatic and judicial offensive to achieve the moral condemnation of these despicable interference policies and demand that our people and country be compensated.
Likewise, we insist that justice be done in Venezuela against the internal characters that promoted and sponsored these criminal "sanctions" against the country, even endorsing the plundering of our assets abroad by foreign financial entities. We cannot forget that these characters used funds owned by the Republic to finance the formation of mercenary groups and promote terrorist attacks against the country. Enough of impunity, Guaido and his acolytes must go to jail and pay for the crimes committed against the Venezuelan people.
